Welcome to the beginning of our journey together. This is the first post of many to come. We plan to bring you amazing content for both future farm owners dreaming of your first property as well as current property owners looking for a little inspiration and more projects. We’re constantly adding to the chaos around here, and learning a lot in the process.
How did we get here? We’ve had a desire to move out of suburbia for quite a while actually. We initially lived in Gresham, OR but realized pretty quickly that “city life” wasn’t going to be for us. The crime, the crowds, the traffic, all forced us to look for something else. We decided to drive out to a new subdivision in Sandy and almost immediately fell in love. A nice small town, slower paced, hardly any traffic, very friendly people and housing we could actually afford. We decided to move to Sandy almost immediately. We made a plan, we’d stay put for five years, long enough to get a little equity in the house and then buy our dream property.
And then, five years later, the housing market dropped out from under us. We lost all the equity and then some. We realized we weren’t going anywhere any time soon, so we started planning. We’d get our finances straightened out and figure out what we really wanted in our next place. Things like the size of the property we wanted to what kinds of things had to be there on day one, to things we’d like, but could live without.
Fifteen years later, after a couple years of torturing ourselves with what was available for sale online, but just out of our budget, a house and property came up. We decided to take the long way home from the barn where my wife was boarding her horse Finn, “just to check it out”. We both almost immediately fell in love. From there it was a whirlwind of activity. Get approved by our mortgage company, find a realtor to show it to us, get our current house in shape to be able to sell, showing our current house over and over, dealing with buyers dropping out for various reasons, dumping thousands of dollars into a house we knew we were leaving. Finally the day came when this place was ours.
All the hard work, all the sleepless nights, all worth it. Every bit of it. We moved in Aug 2020, during a pandemic, and in the six months or so we’ve been here, we’ve never been so happy. Even through having to be forced to evacuate because of approaching wildfires, to losing power multiple times, to dealing with various animal issues, we wouldn’t change a second of it. We finally have our dream property.
We hope this site along with all the content we plan to provide will be inspirational to you if you don’t yet own your own “dream property”. We believe that hard work, perseverance and faith, not just in a higher power, but in yourself, can get anyone where they want to be. Nothing amazing happens overnight, but when it does happen, you’ll appreciate all it took to get there. We want to help you get there. We’re happy to answer any questions, honestly!
